Racing may look different in the COVID era, but the meaning behind it stays the same.
Wounded Warrior Project’s Carry Forward 5K is usually run in multiple locations across the US. This year, due to COVID, it was all virtual. I had a great run, but whether or not I ran a PR wasn’t important to me. What was important was thinking about how grateful I am to all those who have been wounded, or lost their lives fighting for mine. I ran in honor of my close friend, and all the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice fighting for our Country.
Wounded Warrior Project’s mission is “to honor and empower Wounded Warriors who incurred a physical or mental injury, illnesses, or wound, co-incident to your military service on or after September 11, 2001”. This resonates with me a lot. These men and women risk it all, and ask for nothing in return. Let’s do our part to honor them and show them how much they mean to us!
If you’re a runner like me, you can do your part by signing up and running the virtual Carry Forward 5K.
Are you new to the run game? This is a great race to start your journey! Because of COVID, it’s all virtual, so you can do it somewhere familiar. There also isn’t any pressure to beat the person next to you! You can run at your own pace, on your own time, and really clear your mind. For more tips, click here.
